Pominville scored two goals in Wild win
CALGARY, Alberta - Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville scored a pair of goals to lead Minnesota to a 4-3 win over the Flames last night.
Mikko Koivu and Pierre-Marc Bouchard each had a goal for the Wild. Minnesota snapped a three-game losing streak with Niklas Backstrom making 20 saves. Calgary trailed 4-1 but cut the lead to one with 40 seconds to play and the Wild had to hold on. Little Falls native Ben Hanowski scored his first career NHL goal. The former St. Cloud State star was playing in his first NHL game.
The Wild have 49 points on the season and sits alone in sixth place in the Western Conference. Minnesota continues north of the border with a game at Edmonton tonight.
The Wild assigned defenseman Mathew Dumba from the WHL's Red Deer team to the AHL's Houston Aeros yesterday. The 18-year-old Dumba posted 42 points in 62 games with Red Deer this season. He started the season with Minnesota, but did not play in a game. He was the first-round pick of the Wild in last spring's NHL Entry Draft
Former University of Minnesota star hockey player Phil Kessel of Madison has been named this week's NHL Second Star of the Week. The Maple Leafs forward scored five goals in three games for the week. He got off to a fast start this week, as well, tallying a goal in last night's Toronto win over the Devils. Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is this week's NHL First Star, thanks in part to his shootout win over Minnesota on Sunday. Dallas goalie Richard Bachman was the Third Star this week.
