Prep football teams begin practice today
The first high school sports practices of 2013-14 school year are being held today as football gets underway in the state of Wisconsin.
Pierce County teams holding their first practices include Prescott, Ellsworth, Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City.
Teams will get in at least three weeks of practice before their first games on Friday, Aug. 23. Ellsworth opens at home against Spooner while Prescott is at Barron, Spring Valley at Unity and Elmwood/Plum City is at Frederic.
Next weekend each team will participate in four-team scrimmages. Ellsworth will host such a scrimmage next Friday beginning at 10 a.m. along with defending state champion Glenwood City, Osseo-Fairchild and Arcadia.
Also next Friday EPC will be in Alma for a scrimmage along with Alma/Pepin, Blair-Taylor and Brookwood starting at 4:30 p.m. Spring Valley will be in Clayton for a scrimmage which begins at 4:30 p.m. also and Prescott will be at St. Croix Central for a scrimmage which begins at 11 a.m. in Hammond.
