Prep Sports Roundup: Lodi defeats Notre Dame to win baseball title

Sun Prairie won its second straight Division-One state high school spring baseball title last night, with a 5-to-4 victory over Stevens Point in eight innings near Appleton. Conner Funnell drove in the winning run with a two-out double in the top-of-the-eighth. Brett Yoder, who scored the game-winner, pitched the final six innings to get the win. In Division-Two, Lodi won the championship with a 5-to-2 win over Green Bay Notre Dame. Lodi came from behind with four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Donnie Manke. Oconto overcame eight errors to win the Division-Three crown, 4-to-3 over Westby. Oconto came back from a 3-nothing deficit by scoring three unearned runs in the fifth. Greenwood took the home the Division-Four trophy, as they overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat Lake Country Lutheran, 6-to-4.

Four teams advanced after yesterday's Division-One quarter-finals at the girls' state high school soccer tournament in Milwaukee. Brookfield Central eliminated Neenah 1-to-nothing, on an unassisted goal by Bella Turelli. Cedarburg blanked Eau Claire Memorial 3-nothing, as Josee Stiever had two goals and an assist. Waukesha West edged Middleton 2-to-1. Caroline Keenan scored the deciding goal in the 67th minute. De Pere topped Kenosha Tremper 3-to-1. Alek Kleis had two goals and an assist, as De Pere scored all its goals in the first half. Brookfield Central will play Cedarburg in tonight's semi-finals, and De Pere will face Waukesha West. Semis are also scheduled today in two other divisions. The Division-Three semi-finals begin at nine this morning, when defending champion Lake Country Lutheran-University Lake-Trinity plays Ozaukee. Menasha Saint Mary Central takes on Racine Prairie in the other D-Three semi. Division-Two will have its semi-finals this afternoon. Mount Horeb plays Appleton Xavier, and Ashland faces defending champion Waukesha Catholic Memorial.
