Prescott boys win again, MBC openers go badly for county girls' teams
The Prescott High School boys basketball team won its second game in 24 hours as they topped Baldwin-Woodville at home Tuesday by a 61-46 score.
The two wins (PHS beat Cannon Falls on Monday 58-42) give the Cardinals the best record in Pierce County among prep basketball teams at 4-1. PHS is also 2-0 in Middle Border Conference play.
Pierce County's two MBC girls basketball teams, Ellsworth and Prescott, had their season and league openers go badly Tuesday evening.
Prescott was edged up in Amery by a 25-23 score and Ellsworth was hammered at home by Baldwin-Woodville 52-17.
Netta Gerrits and Maddie Kulow combined to score 31 points for the Blackhawks. Kelsey Betthauser had 12 points for the Panthers.
Both of Spring Valley basketball games were canceled last evening. The SV girls vs. Alma/Pepin (at Pepin) and the Cardinal boys at Colfax.
The girls' game will be made up on Feb. 21 while the boys' contest has been rescheduled to Jan. 27.
