PRESCOTT - For the first time since 2000-01 the Prescott High School football team will play in back-to-back WIAA Playoffs. The Cardinals clinched a berth with a 36-0 Homecoming win over Baldwin-Woodville on a wet and windy Friday evening at Laney Field.

The Blackhawks marched down the field on their opening possession and got to the PHS eight-yard line. It was the only offense B-W had for the game as Prescott held the line and turned its first possession into a scoring drive capped by Troy Urman's 30-yard touchdown run. A big pass play from quarterback Alex Helmer to Urman set-up Prescott's next TD, a 10-yard run by Jack Geiger.

A botched punt snap into the endzone led to a safety for the Cards and a 16-0 lead. Then Helmer connected with Payton Bartsch on a four-yard TD pass just before halftime and the Cards led 22-0.

Urman knocked out any hope of a Blackhawk comeback as he broke several tackles on his way to a 65-yard kick-off return for a touchdown to start the second half. Also in the third, Homecoming king Tate Nahorniak scored on a 10-yard run and the Cards' had running clock for the duration of the ballgame up 36-0.

The Redbirds improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Middle Border Conference while B-W lost its sixth game in a row and is 1-6 overall (0-5 in the league). Prescott is at Durand next Friday. Read more on Friday's game in the print edition of the Herald which hits newstands on Tuesday.
