Prescott community helps support Freedom Park with annual fundraiser
PRESCOTT -- Community support has made the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center in Prescott a tremendous success in its history.
Saturday, the community came out again as nearly 150 people attended the fourth annual Taste of Freedom, a fundraiser benefiting the Learning Center and Freedom Park.
Friends of Freedom Park Board Chair Kris Sampson admitted nervousness before the event, wondering if they'd get the support they've had in previous years due to the economic downturn.
"It's been surprising in a good way," she said. "We lowered the admission price and increased our amount of silent auction items.
"We've had way more walk-ins than expected. It's been fabulous."
Added Maureen Otwell, the center's director: "It's been a great turnout; a terrific participation by the businesses in town."
