Prescott girls' hoops team wins first game of season
PRESCOTT - Prescott High School's girls basketball team got win one last week as they downed Osceola at home Friday 36-27.
The Cardinals, 1-2 overall, did almost half their scoring from the foul line where they went 17-for-32. While it wasn’t a sizzling effort from the line it sure beat Osceola 4-for-13 showing.
Although PHS has struggled to score so far this season, their defense has been consistently good. They held the Chieftains under 10 points in all four quarters. The 14-7 margin in the fourth quarter was decisively in favor of Prescott.
“Our offense showed a level of improvement from our first two games,” PHS head coach Luke Kjelland said. “We were able to get ball inside and pick up some foul shots as a result. Our defense was solid and our rebounding was good too.”
Prescott’s Katy Syverson had a varsity-best 14 points to lead all scorers while Kellie Magee finished with eight points and teammates Olivia Rohl and Marti Johnson both scored five points each. Prescott outrebounded Osceola 35-29 led by Elly Boles’ 10 rebounds and Rohl’s nine. Syverson had three assists and three steals and Rohl had three steals as well.
McKenzie Burke scored eight points for Osceola, 0-3 overall.
