Prescott grids post another shutout
PRESCOTT - The Prescott High School football team is now 2-for-2 for 2013 when it comes to shutouts. The Cardinals topped St. Croix Falls 35-0 last Friday in their home opener at Laney Field.
Taylor Miller scored PHS's first home TD of the season when he scoooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown.
"Taylor's play really got the team going," Prescott head coach Matt Smith said to KDWA AM 1460 radio staion in Hastings afterwards. "For whatever reason we were pretty lethargic and weren't very sharp to start the ballgame but his touchdown was a big spark the team needed."
Prescott quarterback Alex Helmer did well in all three facets of the game. He had a big punt return which set up a touchdown, picked off two passes and threw a TD pass to Danny Cobenais.
"In all three phases of football: offense, defense and special teams we did very well," Smith said. "We showed a lot of improvement from the week before."
Jack Geiger scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Cards and teammates Owen Schommer went 5-for-5 on extra points.
Prescott is again at home for this week's conference opener vs. Amery.
