COLBY - Prescott High School's track and field teams qualified several of its athletes for the WIAA State Track and Field Meet at Thursday's Division 2 sectional.

PHS' Joe Smith was Pierce County's lone champion at the meet. He finished first in the 400-meter dash in :52.21 seconds. He also ran anchor for the Cardinals' 1600-meter relay team that finished third and also qualified for state.

The top four finishers head to state.

Also qualifying were Ty Stees in the shot put as he placed third as well, Cole Geiger with a fourth place in the long jump, Stees' sister Autumn in the 800-meter run, fourth, Amy Carroll, third in the 400-meter dash, Victoria Simones in both the mile and two-mile runs where she finished second and the Cardinals' girls' 1600-meter relay team, a third place finish.

As a team PHS' boys took ninth while the girls were seventh.

It was a disappointing day for Ellsworth as they will have just one state qualifier despite a large number of participants. Abbery Ristow finished fourth in the discus.

The state meet is next weekend in La Crosse.
