Prescott High School forensics team takes 10 golds at state

PRESCOTT--On April 11-12, 3,200 students flooded the UW-Madison campus for the 119th annual Wisconsin High School Forensics Association State Tournament.

Of those 3,200 students, 28 were from Prescott High School. PHS earned 10 gold medals and 14 silver medals.

Highlighting the team's results was Justine Backes, who earned her fourth gold medal in poetry at the state competition. This is a major accomplishment that has only happened twice in PHS history; the first student to earn golds at four state tournaments was Nick Helberg in 2012.

In addition to Backes, the other students receiving gold medals included: Molly Hoopingarner in Four Minute, Nicole Pappas in Public Address, Hannah Lassen in Special Occasion, Jon Mielke in Farrago, Natasha Lillie in Prose, Jesse Ahlgren in Prose, Emelia Rohl in Prose, the Play Acting group of Andrew Taylor, Nathan Keil, Jack Patraw and Leif Nelson, and the Play Acting Group of Brittany Lubich and Jadine Lee.

Silver medalists included: Cody Bennet in Demonstration, Savana Stuhl in Demonstration, Ted Sweet in Four Minute, Jack Farrell in Moments in History, Pascalle Nelson in Moments in History, Molly Sweet in Moments in History, Ashley Perry in Oratory, Olivia Simon in Oratory, Joe Carpenter in Radio Speaking, Allie Haraldson in Special Occasion, Mariah Rundquist in Storytelling, Nicole Wawra in Storytelling, Nadia DeVol in Poetry and Kaylee Backes in Prose.
