PRESCOTT -- The Prescott Kiwanis Club is hosting the 17th annual Kids fishing contest, 9-11 a.m., Saturday, June 1. Registration will be at Mercord Mill Park at 8:30 a.m. All entrants must be accompanied by an adult and bring their own fishing equipment and life vest. Prizes will be awarded in four age groups; four and under, five through eight, nine through 12, and 13 and up. Fish size will be judged on weight alone and all fish will be released unless they are of legal size limit and the accompanying adult approves. Entry into the contest is free and all entrants will receive some type of entry premium.

Food, coffee and soft drinks will be on sale during the contest by the Boy Scouts. There is no advanced registration and complete rules will be available at the contest site. Entrants will fish from the public land in the City of Prescott. There will also be two learning stations that will run from 8-11. Learn how to ID fish and knot tying. The learning stations are sponsored by the High School Fishing Club. The Kiwanis Club is a nationally affiliated service organization that seeks to better their local communities through various service projects. The Prescott Kiwanis Club has a special emphasis on programs that involve and help children in our community. The Club meets Thursdays at noon at the UCC Church. Visitors are Welcome.

This is Wisconsin Free Fishing weekend; Saturday and Sunday, June 1st & 2rd, 2013. Every year, the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday in June are designated as Free Fishing Weekend when you can fish without a license throughout the state of Wisconsin. All the waters of the state are open, including state waters of the Great Lakes and rivers bordering Wisconsin. Residents and nonresidents of all ages can fish without a fishing license over these two days. However, all other fishing regulations (length limits, bag limits, etc.) apply.
