Prescott man robbed at knifepoint in Newport
NEWPORT - Police say a man was robbed at knifepoint last week after he went to a secluded area of Newport to meet another male for sex.
Police were called at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday, May 30, to the 2200 block of Larry Lane, where a 51-year-old Prescott man told officers he had been robbed at knifepoint.
The man said he used the website Craigslist to communicate with another male and they agreed to meet in the area to have sex, Newport Police Chief Curt Montgomery said. That area is near the Bailey School Forest.
When the man arrived, two white males got into his car and threatened him with a knife. The victim turned over cash and then the two suspects ran away. Montgomery did not disclose the amount of money taken.
Police set up a perimeter and used a K9 dog to try to find the suspects, but they were not located.
The victim was not injured.
The incident was under investigation. Police did not release further information.
Montgomery said it is an unusual case.
"This is the first time we've had anything like this in our town, as far as I know," he said.
