Prescott nine snatches 1-0 win over No. 4 Ellsworth
PRESCOTT - A fine display of pitching and defense led Prescott to a 1-0 win over Ellsworth Thursday at Firehall Field.
Winning pitcher Brady Schommer allowed Ellsworth just three hits in a ballgame which took only 71 minutes to play.
EHS pitcher James Georgakas was equally effective on the mound, striking out six and holding Prescott to just two hits. But a critical defensive mistake allowed PHS's Matt Schanus to score the game's lone run. He also had one of the Cardinals two hits (Austin Tulip the other).
The win is the fourth in a row for Cards after a 2-5 start to the season. They are also 4-2 in the MBC and will wrap up league play Monday at home vs. New Richmond. Prescott will try to get a non-conference game this afternoon at Pine Island, Minn.
Ellsworth drops to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the league. They can still win the MBC title outright if Prescott tops New Richmond next week. Ellsworth will also try to get a non-MBC game today vs. Bloomer at Brown Field.
