Prescott playoff runs ends at Colby
COLBY - Colby broke a stalemated WIAA Division 5, Level 3 Football Playoff contest with Prescott late in the third quarter and went on to win 14-6 Saturday.
With the score tied a 0-0, Prescott tried a fake punt on a fourth down and four play at midfield. It was stopped short and the change in possession was also a change in momentum as Colby then scored two plays later on a 20-yard run by Brandon Wickersham. The Hornets, 9-2 overall, made a big play on a double reverse, halfback pass on the drive.
Prescott came back to make the score 7-6 midway through the fourth quarter on a short-field drive capped by Tate Nahorniak's two-yard run.
Prescott was able to get the ball back with 2:50 and all of their time outs available. But and interception ended the drive and Colby got the ball down at its 20 yards line. The scores a few plays later on a 15-yard run by Wickersham.
The interception was one of four turnovers committed by Prescott. The Cardinals also had several penalties which hurt them as well. The defending state champion Hornets play unbeaten Amherst in a Level 4 contest next weekend.
PHS finishes its season at 7-4 overall.
