PRESCOTT - Despite winning the first game and having lead in the second, Prescott High School volleyball team lost to River Falls 3-1 Tuesday in a non-conference match.

PHS played well to start the match, winning game one 25-23 and holding an 13-8 lead in game two.

But the Wildcats outscored the Cardinals 17-4 to win game two 25-17. The same situation happened in game three where a slight 13-11 RF lead turned into a 25-14 rout after the Wildcats outscored PHS 12-3. The visitors dominated game four, winning 25-13.

Prescott drops to 6-6 overall before they begin Middle Border Conference play Thursday at New Richmond. The Cards are the defending league champions.

Speaking of conference play, the Dunn-St. Croix began its schedule Tuesday night. 

Spring Valley was the lone county winner. The Cardinals topped Pepin 3-1 and improved to 12-2 overall. 

Both Plum City and Elmwood lost their openers in 3-0 sweeps, Elmwood at Boyceville and Plum City at home to Mondovi.

Ellsworth's MBC opener is Thursday at home vs. Somerset. It's also the Panthers' Homecoming match starting at 7 p.m.
