PRESCOTT--The Prescott School District welcomed five new staff members for the 2012-13 school year that started earlier this month.

A Herald survey asking about their backgrounds and positions was given to them. Their responses follow:

Meisha Dotlich

Dotlich is a new High School Special Education teacher. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2001 with a degree in sociology of law and then added her Masters' in education earlier this year.

She previously worked in River Falls, either as an aide or as a student teacher. In her free time, she likes reading, cooking, hiking and spending time with family. She still calls River Falls home with husband Bear and son Nolan.

"I am looking forward to contributing my knowledge and skills to the Prescott School District," she said.

A previous student and substitute teacher at Malone, Kavanagh returns as a full-time teacher -- this time teaching three grade in one of the portable classrooms.

Kavanagh brings a vast amount of experience in addition to her past Malone time. She was a substitute teacher along with a track and cross country coach in Red Wing, a Girls on the Run coach in Red Wing and Prescott and an Elementary teacher in Sydney, Australia, where her husband Mathew grew up.

She earned her Bachelor's degree in geography and environmental studies from the University of Colorado in 2008 and her Masters' two years later from UW-River Falls. She now calls Red Wing home with Mathew and their two Siberian Huskies -- Omegga and Quincy.

"I'm excited to be back at Malone with the wonderful staff, students and families," she said. "We are going to have a wonderful year together."

Kjurstin Langer

A 1996 Prescott graduate, Langer returns to the district as the middle school counselor. She previously worked in New Richmond for four years and the Twin Bluff Middle School in Red Wing for five years.

She earned her Bachelors' degree in Psychology from UW-Stout in 2000 and then added a Masters' degree in school counseling two years later. She is married to Mike and they are the parents of two boys. In her free time, she likes playing games, trying new fitness classes and spending time with family and friends.

"I am really excited to be coming back to Prescott and look forward to being part of this community again," she said.

Odin Robinson

Prescott marks the first teaching job for the Rice Lake native, as he will be the Spanish teacher at the high school.

Robinson graduated earlier this year from UW-La Crosse. He previously student taught in Kickapoo, La Farge and Lincoln Middle School. In his free time, he enjoys sports, traveling and hunting. He now calls St. Paul home.

"I am very excited for my first year of teaching and getting to teach the students Spanish," he said.

Meghan Smith

Smith is the new Title One Reading teacher at Malone Elementary. She comes from Hudson, where she spent the last seven years, teaching first, second and third graders.

The Prescott native earned a Bachelors in Kinesiology from UW-Eau Claire in 2004, a Masters in Elementary Education from UW-River Falls in 2011 and a Reading License from St. Mary's University in 2011. She is married to Matt and they are the parents of a daughter, Miah.
