Prescott's Murphy wins girls' race at Ellsworth Invitational

PRESCOTT - Amanda Murphy won her first prep cross country race at the Ellsworth Invitational Tuesday.

The meet was moved from Ellsworth to Prescott's home course and the familiar surroundings helped Murphy take first place in a time of 16:57 on the 4000-meter course.

Also finishing in the top 10 for Prescott were Annika Carlson in fourth and Emmie Carpenter in seventh. The Cardinals finished second to Glenwood City 32-39. Liberty Christian was third with 95 points, Durand fourth withy 100 and Ellsworth had 103. EHS's Kelsey Betthauser finished 11th in 18:25.

Ellsworth's Carter Schultz was the lone Pierce County to place in the boys' race, taking fourth in 19:28. EHS had an incomplete team and Prescott was fourth with 71 points. Liberty won the meet with 35.

Prescott runs in the Amery Invitational next Tuesday while Ellsworth will be in Black River Falls for its invite meet.
