Prescott's Simones wins Amery Invitational
AMERY - Prescott High School cross country runner Victoria Simones won her first meet of the season at the Amery Invitational Tuesday.
Simones' winning time was 16:05 as the senior gears up to defend her Middle Border Conference championship.
PHS as a team finished fifth out of the 19 teams competing. The host Warriors won the team title with 77 points. EPC finished 10th with McKayla Brunner taking 23rd in a time of 17:45. No. 13 ranked Spring Valley ran an incomplete team but the Cardinals' Sara King finished seventh and Elizabeth Anderson finished 12th.
Prescott's Cole Hauenstein will also be defending his MBC title in next week's conference meet, also at Amery. He finished fifth in the boys' race in 17:43. Prescott finished 13th in the meet, EPC 15th and Spring Valley 16th out of 20 schools competing. Minnehaha Academy won the boys race with 30 points and New Richmond was second at 105.
Spring Valley and EPC will wait to run again at the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet next Thursday in Mondovi while Prescott will run in the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday at Schultz Farm.
