An Eau Claire high school student has been put on a year of probation, after he changed his grades and attendance record on a school computer.

Circuit Judge William Gabler also gave Nicholas Smith, 18, the choice of 20 days in jail or 160 hours of community service.

Authorities said he learned two teachers' passwords at Eau Claire North, and he used them to illegally enter the school's computer system.

Smith pleaded no contest Monday to misdemeanor counts of modifying computer data.

Two of those charges mentioned fraud. Dillon Stokes, 18, and Daniel Endl, 18, are also charged in the case.

Their attorneys say they're still trying to make plea deals with prosecutors.
