Raiders rally again to beat Whitehall in Gridiron Classic
MENOMONIE - For the fourth time in a row Elmwood defeated Whitehall in the Gridiron Classic played at UW-Stout in Menomonie and for the fourth straight time they did so coming from behind Thursday afternoon.
The Raiders led 14-0 in the first quarter before the Norse scored 20 unanswered points and led 20-14 midway through the fourth. But an interception by Brian Tolonen turned the game in Elmwood's favor.
The interception set up a 34-yard touchdown run by the Raiders' Jesse McKune. He then broke the 20-20 tie with a two-point conversion run.
Elmwood then converted a Whitehall fumble to a touchdown on a seven-yard run to McKune. He then scored his fifth TD of the game on a 31-yard run for the final score of 38-20.
Three turnovers, three penalties over 15 yards and couple of big defensive stops in the final quarter lifted Elmwood to another season opening win
