Regional semifinal match-ups set in prep baseball

Friday's first round games have now set the plate for Tuesday's semifinals in WIAA baseball regional tournament play.

Prescott topped Baldwin-Woodville 7-2 in Prescott while Spring Valley dispatched Plum City by the same score in Spring Valley, leaving the Blue Devils winless for the season at 0-9.

Prescott, 9-5 overall, is the No. 3 seed in its bracket and will be at No. 2 Altoona, 12-3 overall, in the Division 2 semifinals. No. 1 seed and No. 7 ranked Ellsworth, 11-3 overall, is on the other side of the bracket and will host Black River Falls at Brown Field in Hager City. No. 5 seeded BRF, 5-9 overall, downed Bloomer 4-1 yesterday in their first-round match-up.

In Division 4, Spring Valley will move on to face Elmwood in its semifinal match-up in Elmwood. The Cardinals went above the .500 mark at 7-6 with their win over PC and will face the No. 2 seeded Raiders who are 9-3 overall. The winners faces either No. 1 seed and No. 8 ranked Alma/Pepin, 11-2 overall, or No. 5 seeded Glenwood City, 4-5 overall, who crushed No. 4 Clear Lake 12-1 in five innings yesterday in Clear Lake.

Tuesday's regional semifinals begin at 5 p.m. The regional finals are set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. also. The highest seeded team will host.
