Regional semifinals stretch across Pierce County
WIAA boys basketball regional tournament semifinal games will stretch across Pierce County this evening.
Starting in the west at Prescott, the Cardinals will take on Amery in a Division 3 match-up.
Moving smack into the center, Ellsworth will host Maple Northwestern, also in Division 3.
Finally, head east to the county line where Spring Valley will be at home against Eau Claire Regis in Division 4.
All games will tip-off at 7 p.m.
PHS, 18-3 overall, swept the season series with the No. 7 seed Warriors (10-12). The No. 2 seeded Cardinals 56-46 and 56-35. Prescott's defense has held its opponents under 50 points in four of its last five ballgames. Amery topped Osceola to advance to the semis
Ellsworth hopes the start of tournament play can renew themselves after losing their last three ballgames. The Panthers (11-8) still have the No. 4 seed and they face the No. 5 seeded Tigers, who come in with a 14-6 overall record. MNW finished tied for third in the Heart O'North Conference and they are led in scoring by senior guard Brayden Bartlet, who averages nearly 11 points per contest.
Spring Valley (16-5) will have to contain the guard play of Eau Claire Regis (14-8) to finally get a regional win over the Ramblers. ECR's Billy Wampler went off for 37 points in Regis's first round win over Boyceville on Tuesday. He's averaging 25 points per game. His backcourt teammate, sophomore Logan Rohrscheib, averages 18 points per game.
Regional finals will be on Saturday, also at 7 p.m. Prescott will host if they win regardless and will take on either Barron or Baldwin-Woodville. Ellsworth will take on either St. Croix Falls or Somerset if they win and Spring Valley will face either Mondovi or Glenwood City.
