Prescott High School head volleyball coach Patti Tulip hopes the Cardinals' rematch with Osceola in tonight's WIAA Division 2 regional seminfal will be different, if nothing else but the final outcome.

The Chieftains beat PHS 3-1 at Prescott in late September on their way to the Middle Border Conference championship. Prescott won the first game but lost a close second game and then were beaten soundly in games three and four.

"We were pretty spent emotionally at the time and in the match itself after game two," Tulip said. "But it's going to be a different game because we're a different team now."

Indeed, the Cardinals began the month with a 10-11 overall record but now are 27-16 after Tuesday's night's first round sweep of Pierce County rival Ellsworth at home. Besides being even-keeled, PHS has made some technical changes as well which Tulip feels had made them more effective.

"We only have two players back on the serve-receive and we're more effective there," Tulip said. "We've also mixed around some of our rotations so we can have Anna (Weiser) hitting from the left which throws defenses off."

Tulip also lauded the team's improved blocking and balance on offense which have been big factors in their October-run.

Prescott is the No. 4 seed in the regional tournament bracket while Osceola, the home team, is the No. 1 seed and had a first round. In a way, the regional semifinals are mini-Middle Border Conference tournament with the remaining top four seed the top four team in the league this season. The No. 2 and 3 seeds, New Richmond and Baldwin-Woodville, also play tonight in New Richmond. The winners square off Saturday and if PHS wins they will either be at NR or B-W for the finals which also begin at 7 p.m.

Two other Pierce County spiker squads are in action this evening in the regional semifinal round. In Division 3, No. 6 seed Spring Valley is at No. 3 seeded Arcadia while in Division 4 is No. 4 seeded Plum City at No.1 seed Cochrane-Fountain City in a rematch of last year's regional final won by PC 3-2.
