HAMMOND - Just a little ways into the track and field season and already Pierce County could be home to some very good relay teams among its four high school squads. These relay teams won top places at Thursday's St. Croix Central Invitational.

In the girls meet, Elmwood-Plum City's 800-meter relay team of Heather Von Holtum, Marah Boyer, Jessica Olson and Jenna Reitz won in 1:57.57. The 1600 meter relay team of Von Holtum, Olson, Sara Gilles and Becky Hartung were first in 4:26.34. Spring Valley's 800 relay team finished third and Prescott mile relay team was second.

Prescott did win the 3200-meter relay with Elmwood-PC second in 10:47.34. Team members are Victoria Simones, Savannah Bowen, Melanie Tschida and Autumn Stees.

Prescott boys' mile relay won first in 3:35.31. Team members are Cole Hauenstein, Matt Pechacek, Joe Smith and Mark Nahorniak. PHS finished second in the 3200 relay.

Also winning at the SCC Invite from Pierce County were Joe Smith in the 200-meter dash in :23.70, Prescott's Cody Haupt in the high jump at six feet and Elmwood-Plum City's Tyler Churchill in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, nine inches.

PHS' boys' team had the highest county finish with a second place. Mondovi won the girls' meet and Somerset the boys.
