Reward money increased to find out who illegally shot bear near Star Prairie
STAR PRAIRIE - More reward money is being offered to help authorities find the people who illegally shot a hibernating bear in northwest Wisconsin.
The DNR said the bear was shot in February while sleeping in a culvert near Star Prairie. It was dragged to place near Somerset where it was decapitated. The Star Prairie Fish-and-Game Association put up a $500 reward for information leading to the shooter's conviction.
The Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association, the Mid-State Houdsmen Association, and others have added to the reward fund. It now totals $1,700. The DNR said the bear weighed 300 pounds, so it's likely that more one person killed the animal.
