RF teen charged with sexual assault

A River Falls teenager has been charged with one count of second degree sexual assault, a Class C felony that is punishable by up to either $100,000 or 40 years in prison, or both.

John J. Woodcock, 17, 1320 Steeple Dr., has been charged with the act, stemming from an incident June 30 in the Town of River Falls.

According to the criminal complaint, Woodcock and the victim had known each other for about three years. When asked by Pierce County investigators about their relationship prior to this, the victim replied they're just friends and never had any form of a romantic relationship.

On June 29, the two had spent most of the day together, as they spent the morning working chores at a local farm. After making a couple of stops, they returned to the farm for evening chores. After finishing for the day, the two returned to the victim's house for the night.

They both ate and drank Wild Turkey Bourbon (his straight, hers mixed with Coke). The victim stated that, after eating, they were still talking and drinking (she told investigators, she estimated she had three drinks). Then, she fell asleep because the next thing she remembers is waking up in bed with Woodcock on top of her naked and she naked from the waist down.

She asked him what he was doing and his response was, "I just gave you what you wanted."

The victim asked Woodcock to leave, which he did after the second request. She then called some friends, who subsequently called police.

Investigators interviewed Woodcock less than an hour later. His version of the day's events were pretty much in line with the victim, but a subtle difference was he thought the victim kept flirting with him throughout the day.

Woodcock continued to say the victim kept giving off examples of wanting to have sex. Then, right after intercourse, he said she hit him, pushed him off, freaked out and started crying.

Woodcock told investigators he thought the victim "was kind of out of it" and "kind of getting there" in terms of being drunk. In regard to himself, he thought he was never drunk, just tipsy. He estimated that, out of the three glasses she had, 75 percent were alcohol and 25 percent were Coke. As the victim was being interviewed a second time, she thought the figures were 50 percent alcohol and 25 percent pop for the first two glasses, and the third one wasn't as strong.

When asked further whether or not he thought the victim was asleep, he stated, "I swear to God, I didn't know she was asleep," and continued to deny she was asleep when the intercourse started.

During that second interview, the victim said she felt drunk as she was drinking. She also reiterated the two never dated and were just friends, and stated the two may have flirted some that night, but they flirt all the time.

Woodcock is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Pierce County Circuit Court Monday, Oct. 15.
