River Falls man sentenced for shooting his friend
RIVER FALLS - A 27-year old River Falls man, who says he had no intention of shooting his friend, will spend the next three years in prison.
Anthony P. Velure pleaded no contest to the felony charge of homicide by use of a dangerous weapon. He was formally found guilty last November, convicted of shooting Joshua Kurer June 27, 2011, at Kurer's River Falls apartment.
Velure says he had been drinking before the incident. The two had served together in the military. He says he thought the .410-gauge shotgun was empty when he aimed it at Kurer and pulled the trigger. Velure told investigators he and Kurer had pointed unloaded guns at each other at least and pulled the trigger a half-dozen times.
