Road to family fun leads to Prescott Daze

PRESCOTT—Nextweekend’s annual Prescott Daze celebration is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great River Road.

Take it (Hwy. 35) from the north or south (or follow Hwy. 10 from the east or west) to a community promising family fun over four days.

A weekend shuttle bus will run. The bus will be available Friday from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the half hour from Prescott High School, the Prescott Fire Hall, Prescott Middle School, at Orange and Court streets, and downtown, at Orange and Broad streets. On Saturday, it will be available from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the half hour from the high school, the fire hall, the middle school, at Orange and Court streets, and downtown, at Orange and Dakota streets.

The Medallion Hunt has been a pre-celebration activity in the weeks leading up to Prescott Daze. Clues listed in the local newspaper have been related to the search for the hidden medallion. A $100 VISA Gift Card is awarded to the winner who returns the medallion to BMO Harris Bank with a Prescott Daze Button. It’s a $50 VISA Gift Card if the winner is without a button. The hunt is sponsored by BMO Harris Bank.

Thursday

Thursday’s kick-off to the celebration is a middle school dance for grades 6-8 at the Prescott Middle School Cafeteria from 6-8 p.m. Games and prizes will be available, and concessions will be sold. The event is sponsored by the Prescott Lions Club.

Friday

Punt, Pass and Kick is Friday’s opening activity, with a 3:30 p.m. registration and a 4 p.m. contest at the Prescott High School Football Field. The competition is for ages eight to 13, both boys and girls, and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Prescott Fire and Rescue has planned activities at the local fire hall, Flora and Walnut streets, from 4 p.m.-midnight (more of the activities are on the celebration agenda for Sunday as well).

A beer garden will operate from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday. Joe’s BBQ Chicken will be located at the corner of Flora and Walnut streets (on Saturday from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday at noon, besides Friday evening). Meat, print and gun raffles will be going on all weekend.
