For Rohl, care center was like home-away-from-home

Carol Rohl was starting a new phase of her life when she was asked the question, "How are you going to support yourself?"
The self-described "domestic engineer" had stayed home to raise a family for the previous 25 years, she said Friday. What she decided was the answer would enable her to make a living as well as a difference to others for almost as long into the future.
"One of my daughters was going to the vocational technical school in Red Wing and I thought to myself, 'I could do that'," Rohl said.
It was the fall of 1988 and studies in nursing were on her horizon. The St. Paul native will wrap up a career in that field, mostly at the Ellsworth Care Center, with her retirement from the local nursing home next Tuesday. On Thursday, May 2, a party will be held there honoring her for her past service.
