Ronald A. Shafer, 77
Ronald Anthony Shafer, 77 years, 11 months and 10 days old, of Beldenville, Wis., died Saturday morning, July 19, at the Kinnic Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Center, River Falls, Wis.
Ron was born at home, in the town of El Paso, Pierce County, Wisconsin, to Carl and Marie (Weber) Shafer. Ron graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955, and was activated for the Gaddafi conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
Ron married Gladys Geldert on July 18, 1959, just celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with four children. Ron farmed on the family farm and did various mechanical jobs in and around the area. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for 33 years for Northwest Airlines, retiring in 1999. Ron continued farming while at Northwest, he also plowed the neighborhood driveways for 39 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tractors, the Brewers, the Packers, playing cards, making maple syrup and joking around with everyone he met. Ron had an amazing faith in God. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed years in the camper and spending time with family and friends. Ron was a member of Cross Roads Community Church, Ellsworth, Wis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; four children, Michael and his wife, Chris, Mark and his wife, Lorrie, Nancy Shafer and her friend, Jim Schunke, and Patrick and his wife, Alice; grandchildren, Joshua Deden, Anthony Nelson, Chad Shafer, Stephanie Morales, Danielle Bennett, Benjamin Bennett, Amber Shafer, Maryann Waithera,and Samuel Ngatia; great-grandchildren, Alexis Nelson, Mikayla Nelson, and Wyatt Nelson, Sara Deden, and Noah Deden; sisters, Jean Nelson, JoAnn (George) Brenner, Judy (Doug) Harer, Mary (Mike) Casey, Lana (Richard) Anderson, Bonnie (Ron) Drabowicz, and Kathleen Shinn; and sister-in-law, Jean Shafer.
Ron was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Schalow; parents, Carl and Marie; and brothers, Robert and James.
Services for Ron will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Cross Roads Community Church, Ellsworth, Wis. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, El Paso, Wis., at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Military Honors will be accorded Ron by the Veterans of Ellsworth, Wisconsin.
Memorials are preferred to Adoray Home Health and Hospice, Baldwin, Wis., Piper Cancer Center, River Falls, Wis., or donor's choice.
