Ruby attended grade school at Cloverdale and South Rush River Schools, and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941. Her first job was as bookkeeper at Lawton Creamery, followed by being a secretary at Ellsworth High School and bookkeeper at Farmers Union. It was there that she met her future husband.

Ruby married Ralph "Bud" Nelson on August 26, 1944. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in two locations in Martell Township and then purchased their first farm in 1948 which continues to be operated by family. She was a full time wife, mother and farming partner. In 1965 she began work part time for Wm McEwen and Ralph Senn, Attorneys in River Falls. In addition, she served as Town Clerk for Martell Township for a number of years.

Ruby always said family and friends were the most important part of her life. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, involvement in her church, traveling (Europe and throughout the US), attending and keeping records at horse pulling contests, attending grandchildrens' activities, and in later years doing word finds. One of Ruby's greatest talents was in the kitchen whether serving meals, keeping the cookie jars full, making Norwegian foods or her famous donuts.

Ruby is survived by her husband of 69 years; children Judy Edgar, Barbara Nelson (Terry Larson), Jerry (Patsy) Nelson and Mary (Jerry) Halls; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Johnson and Marion Erlandson; numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Palmer, Randolph, Freeman and Clyde; sister Opal and numerous in-laws.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. on July 8, and 10-11 a.m. on July 9, with funeral following. All at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Beldenville.

Private family burial will be at a later date.
