"Safety in the Garden" discussed
RIVER FALLS--"Safety in the Garden" is the topic of the Thursday, April 25, St. Croix Valley Master Gardener Association (SCVMGA) meeting.
Are there any potential dangers while gardening? Gardening should be fairly safe, right?
There are many safety aspects people don't often consider while working in the gardens. Ken and Barb Kolbe, Hudson, will cover items of safety such as first aid, allergic reactions from plants, how to care for insects stings and simple sprains. Kolbe is a paramedic who works for local emergency services agencies.
SCVMGA has started a vegetable trial project, growing four varieties of broccoli, carrots, basil, squash and other vegetables. The tomato starts and some seeds will be handed out at the April meeting. The trials will test varieties by growth, taste, local growing conditions and the results given later in the fall.
The SCVMGA meeting starts at 6:45 p.m., with the speakers at 7:15 p.m. at the Unitarian Society Church, N8010 Hwy. 65, southeast of River Falls. The public is invited.
