Sailer's celebrates 90 years in business
Sailer's Food Market and Meat Processing in Elmwood celebrated their 90th anniversary Sept. 13 and 14.
Jake and Leslie Sailer, fifth generation-owners of the business, along with the Sailer famliy hosted the event and invited the public for lunch along with special tours, product deals and items to win. The weather was perfect and turnout was beyond expectations.
Beef bundle winners were Greg Glaus, Paul Burke, Marian Bauer and K. Jenson. Gift certificate winners were Lorrie Quilling, Anne Claflin, Leslie Bowen and Myrtle Pechman. Lee Hardy was Guess the Rings winner. He guessed 2,872 and there were 2,898 rings in the jar. He received a $50 gift certificate.
In July, Sailer's was also honored at the American Cured Meat Championships (ACMC) in North Charleston, South Carolina. Sailer's was awarded first place, grand champion in the Meat Snack Sticks class; third place champion in the Heayweight Bone-In Ham and Specialty Game Meats classes; and fourth place, reserve champion in the Heayweight Bacon class. All entries were judged on the basis of aroma, flavor, eye appeal, color and texture.
The ACMC annually draws hundreds of entries from across the entire United States as there were 647 entries in 27 product categories.
