Schulte, long-time local businessman, dies
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Vince Schulte, long-time Ellsworth businessman, died Friday at the Ellsworth Care Center. He was 86.

For nearly 35 years, Schulte, along with his wife Dorothy, operated a grocery business in Ellsworth. First was the Fairway Foods Store, where Ellsworth Auto Parts currently is. Then, due to a need for more space, Schulte moved the business to the then-Midway Shopping Center, where he ran the store until 1988, when he sold it to Steve and Sue Hinck. The business is now Hinck's Economart.

He always said that "the people of the Ellsworth area have been good to us."

Prior to that, the Schultes operated a grocery store in Bay City from 1950-1955 and in Bruce for three previous years.

After his retirement, Schulte had triple bypass surgery in 1989, but recovered rapidly and enjoyed going to vehicle auctions, selling cars and trucks, fishing, boating, motorcycles, snowmobiles and going to horse shows, where his daughter, Faye, competed with "home grown talent."

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 60 years, two sons, Larry of River Falls and Wayne (Jackie) of Ellsworth, two daughters, Susan (Dick) Schliesmann and Faye, both of San Francisco, and three grandchildren.

An obituary is published elsewhere in this week's Herald.
