Heather Flock isn't sure how many have signed up for the second annual Ellsworth Triathlon, which is set for this Saturday starting at 8 a.m. at Ellsworth Middle School. Last year she said 86 persons took part in the first-ever triathlon.

But she knows of 25 for sure that will be competing because she's helping them train for the event at Fitness Influence in Ellsworth where she works.

And what excites Flock about this group is the fact 15 of them will be competing in their first-ever triathlon.

"I'm really excited to see so many take part in this for the first and I hope there are many others," Flock said. "This is a great event for the first-time triathlete to take part in. It's a way to get into the sport and build a base to work from. I hope they've been inspired by some of the things I've done or others have done or maybe shows on TV like the 'Biggest Loser' which shows people training and accomplishing goals they never thought they could do. This is a great way to prove something to yourself and a lot of fun to do."

The course and distances will be the same, eight laps in the Klaas -Jonas pool along with a 12-mile bike ride and two-mile run around Ellsworth. This year the timing will be done by Triathlon Championship Timing, which participants will get exact, professional timing made possible through a sponsorship with River Falls Medical.

Each participant will receive a medal for finishing the triathlon.

Last year Luke Oscarson had the fastest time as he completed the course in one hour, six minutes and 23 seconds.
