Sheriff issues no-wake order on the Mississippi

Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove announced Wednesday afternoon she has declared an emergency no wake order on the Mississippi River and associated back waters from Prescott to Maiden Rock.

The no wake order will remain in effect until the water level recedes and is predicted to remain below 11 feet as measured at the official NOAA Red Wing gauge station. Current and predicted river levels can be viewed at www.weather.gov, and then click on "Rivers, Lakes, Rainfall".

Hove urges boaters and persons along the waterways to use extreme caution and always wear a personal flotation device when on or near the flooded rivers. Floating debris and swift currents make boating during high water events exceptionally hazardous.
