Sheriff's K-9 now equipped with bulletproof vest

Donna Morgan is an animal lover.

"I can't watch a movie when an animal is being killed," she explained.

One night, Morgan had her television on to the popular "America's Most Wanted." It was showing footage of a K-9 going into a crime scene and, although she didn't want to, the curiosity of what happened next drew her in.

The result was the suspect shooting the dog, killing him and leaving that implant in Morgan's mind.

"I couldn't sleep that night," she said. "When an animal dies before it's time, it's not right."

That implant gave Morgan the goal of outfitting every K-9 police dog in the State of Wisconsin with a bullet and stab proof vest. Thanks to the generosity of River Falls resident Lara Rasmussen, "Packer," the Pierce County Sheriff's K-9 was recently vested.
