Sixteen inches fell in Ellsworth; only Hayward with more
The National Weather Service says the early May snowstorm in northwest Wisconsin appears to be one for the record books. Eighteen inches of new snow fell east of Hayward over the past two days. Mellen, Ashland, and Ellsworth had around 16 inches. Weather Service official Rusty Kapela says the storm will most likely break one-day, two-day, and three-day records for a total snowfall in Wisconsin in May.
