Skyrockets to mark 4-H Centennial Saturday
The Rock Elm Skyrockets 4-H Club will celebrate the 4-H Centennial with a special event this Saturday.
The celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elmwood, rain or shine, will feature a petting zoo, carnival games, prizes, face painting, food, free cake and root beer floats, and a rooster pooping board.
4-Hers will bring exhibits they’ve had at the Pierce County Fair, according to Club Advisor Gwen Geraets. A raffle will also be held for prizes club members have lined up, including a football signed by Green Bay Packers, a photo signed by a Minnesota Vikings player, implement toys from a Menomonie dealer and more.
Geraets said proceeds will go toward a project at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. The club is creating a garden in a courtyard there, outfitted with trees, grass and a sidewalk. Plants and flowers people have had at home are to be added. The area is used by the home’s memory unit.
The 4-H Centennial commemorates 100 years since a legislative act established having extension offices work with 4-H groups, she said. Skyrockets 4-Hers expressed interest last fall in hosting a petting zoo and carnival games at some point, and ultimately decided to tie these in with this milestone, she added.
