Snow disrupting evening drive; UW-RF closes at 4 p.m.
All evening classes at UW-River Falls were cancelled Thursday afternoon and area commuters appeared to be struggling to make their way home.
Traffic on Hwy. 35 near River Falls was moving at just 25-30 mph with multiple slide-ins being reported throughout Pierce County.
Deputies attended to minor injury accident on CTH M, west of River Falls and vehicles were unable to navigate the steep hill east of CTH F until a county plow arrived with its blade, sand and salt.
A multi-vehicle accident closed the Eisenhower Bridge across the Mississippi at Red Wing around 1:30 p.m. causing traffic to back up about a mile into Wisconsin. That bottleneck was cleared shortly after 3 p.m.
Slide-ins were also reported on Hwy. 65, north of Beldenville and Hwy. 35, north of Glover Road.
The River Falls area had received about three inches of snow, driven by strong easterly winds, as of about 4 p.m., Thursday.
Numerous sports contests were also cancelled for the evening, including:
--Division 4 girls basketball regional game between No. 2 Plum City and No. 3 Spring Valley was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in Plum City.
--Plum City boys basketball game against Mondovi has been changed from Friday night to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
