Folks in northwest Wisconsin could blame Tropical storm Sonia if they shovel a lot of snow on Wednesday morning.  The National Weather Service says the big storm in the eastern Pacific could help bring heavy moisture that's expected in southern and eastern Minnesota, and far west and northwest Wisconsin.

Four-to-six inches are predicted -- and some places could get 7-inches by Wednesday morning.  A winter storm watch is in effect tomorrow afternoon through late tomorrow night for seven Wisconsin counties -- Polk, Barron, Rusk, Saint Croix, Pierce, Dunn, and Chippewa. The Twin Cities metro in Minnesota is also part of the watch area.

Forecasters say Eau Claire area is likely to escape the brunt of the storm, at least for now.  A cold front is expected to push a new low-pressure system into the Badger State tomorrow.  The weather service says temperatures will get cooler in the region tomorrow afternoon, thus allowing rain to change to snow.  Much of northern Wisconsin as far as east as Eagle River could get significant snows.  Rain is predicted for other parts of the state.
