Southern counties get Fed aid for snow removal
Eight southern Wisconsin counties will get federal aid to help cover their snow removal costs from a massive storm last month.
President George Bush approved the aid Thursday for Milwaukee, Dane, Washington, Walworth, Rock, Jefferson, Dodge, and Green counties.
Up to 21-inches of snow fell in a 48-hour period on Feb. 5 and 6.
It's the same storm that left hundreds of motorists stranded for over 12 hours on Interstate-90 south of Madison.
The new aid will reimburse highway departments and police agencies for their extra costs during the storm.
Lori Getter of Wisconsin Emergency Management says they can get federal reimbursements of 75 percent and state grants of 12.5 percent.
