A winning ticket for a Wisconsin Lottery Powerball drawing earlier this month was sold in Ellsworth.

The $20,000 Power Play ticket was sold at Speedway. Kerry Hansen of Ellsworth claimed the prize Saturday, according to information from the lottery office in Madison. Hanson couldn't be reached for comment by the Herald as of press time yesterday.

"We've got a big sign in the window," Speedway Manager Kathymae Fletcher said about store personnel's enthusiasm over the winning ticket being bought there.

Fletcher said the ticket was sold during the night shift Jan 12 for the drawing on Jan. 13. She understood the ticket purchase was a "quick pick," meaning lottery machinery picks the numbers instead of the buyer.

Jessica Iverson of the lottery office in Madison said last week players can check whether their numbers are winners in a variety of ways: reading them in newspapers, hearing them on TV or radio, visiting the lottery's web site or seeing postings at the location where they purchased the ticket. Lottery officials notify the locations where winning tickets are sold.

In the case of Ellsworth's winner, the Power Play option was chosen, Iverson said. An extra $1 was paid to be entered in a separate drawing, she explained. So while the prize would have been $10,000, the multiplier 2 was applied, doubling it to $20,000.

The site where the ticket was sold is eligible for two percent of the winnings, she said.

The winning numbers for the Jan. 13 drawing were: 01, 21, 23, 25 and 26. The Powerball was 04, besides the Power Play multiplier being 2.

A $200,000 winning ticket for the same drawing was sold in Plymouth, while $10,000 winning tickets were sold each in Antigo, Beloit, Fond du Lac, Oak Creek, Racine and Two Rivers.
