BALDWIN - Spring Valley and Ellsworth's track and field teams competed in a seven-team meet at Baldwin-Woodville’s King Field Tuesday

Eau Claire Regis won both the boys' and girls' meets. Spring Valley's boys tied for fourth with Glenwood City with 84 points each while Ellsworth finished sixth with 66.5 points. EHS’s girls’ team finished in fourth place with 55.33 points and Spring Valley was fifth with 47 points.

Spring Valley’s defending state champion won his first triple jump event of the season. He finished first in the event with a leap of 42 feet, 11 inches. He also won the high jump with a mark of 6-4. His teammate Matt Fesenmaier also was a first place finisher as he won the discus with a throw of 119-8.

Another Pierce County winner in the boys’ meet was Ellsworth’s Brett Freier. He won both hurdle races, taking first in the 110-meter high hurdles in :16.13 seconds and the 300-meter IM hurdles in :44.14 seconds. He also finished third in the triple jump.

Other top three finishes from individual county athletes at the meet were Spring Valley’s Tyler O’Keefe, third in the 400-meter dash; Spring Valley’s Aiden Manley, second in the 1600-meter run and Spring Valley’s Lucas Olson, third in the high jump. In the relay races, SV was second in the 800-meter relay; Ellsworth was second in the 1600-meter relay; Ellsworth finished third in the 400-meter relay and Spring Valley was third in the 1600-meter relay.

Spring Valley’s Sam O’Brien won a pair of race in the girls’ meet. She took first in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of :13.25 seconds and :28.88 seconds. Spring Valley also won the 3200-meter relay in 11:27.61.

Other county place winners in the girls meet included Ellsworth’s Payton Bjorkman, second in the 800; Spring Valley’s Claire Arneson, second in the 3200-meter run; Ellsworth’s Olivia Helmer, second in the triple jump; Ellsworth’s Joanne Lanegran, third in the pole vault; Ellsworth 1600 relay team, second.
