SPRING VALLEY--Prospects for the former Spring Valley Health Care Center to again be occupied have been revived, the local village board heard last week.

After deciding to turn off the heat and begin plans to demolish the vacant nursing home facility, an unnamed party has come forward with plans for another healthcare business. The Minnesota man, who divides his time between Seattle and the Duluth/Superior region, would like to open a center for veterans with PTSD or substance abuse problems. He toured the facility with Village President Marsha Brunkhorst, Administrator Rita Goveronski, and Trustees Matt Huepfel and Dale Jacobson.

His background as a Vietnam vet with over 30 years of recovery from chemical dependency is what motivates his interest, but he stressed to the group that, unless there was a good business model in place, he would not pursue the venture. He offered to put the cost of repairs into escrow until he decides in January. His attorney is currently writing a letter of intent.

He also suggested he is leaning toward opening a program for female vets and their children.

After a short public hearing to review the proposed 2013 village budget, the board acted on the following items:

--A request to approve trail routes by Dustin Timm of the snowmobile club was reviewed and approved.

--A motion to donate $1,500 to the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation was approved.

--A letter from St. Croix County asked the village to be a part of their outdoor plan. The plan, which is similar to the comprehensive plans used by many area villages, gives the participants access to grant monies. The trustees asked Goveronski to bring specific details to the next meeting before any action is taken.
