Spring Valley seven return as number 15 in nation for Ocean Science Bowl
By Tony Huppert, Spring Valley
The USA has over 320 million residents, 3.5 million square miles of coastal and deep ocean water, plus over 400 billion gallons of water are used every day.
This information shows the importance of Spring Valley Wisconsin’s Ocean Science Team receiving the number 15 spot in the nation at the National Ocean Science Bowl in Seattle this last week. These five high school students along with their coach and assistant coach established this prestigious position by competing nationally against the best in the nation on water science.
The human body is approximately 57 percent water. These students’ knowledge, expertise and future in water research might someday save your life.
Out of approximately 14,000 school districts in the U.S., Spring Valley Wisconsin’s Team is number 15.
Congratulations to Team Captain Claire Arneson, Sophia Koch, Ester Gland, Tana O’Keefe, Tyler O’Keefe, and their coaches/ chaperons, Michele and Eric Huppert. A special appreciation goes to the parents of these students for their support.
As my Uncle advised me over 40 years ago, invest in water. Communities supporting students, teachers and parents, in programs involving water, “IS” investing in water.
