State girls basketball tournament continues
MADISON - Milwaukee Vincent will play Milwaukee Pius, and De Pere will face Wausau West in tonight's Division-One semi-finals of the girls' state high school basketball tournament at the Kohl Center.
All four teams won their quarter-final contests yesterday and last night. Vincent remains in contention for an unprecedented fourth straight title, after beating Racine J.I. Case 68-62. Nicole Griffin had 29 points for Vincent, and Case guard Samantha Logic had 32 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals in a losing effort.
Milwaukee Pius XI out-shot Verona 52-to-38-percent in a 58-41 victory. De Pere, the AP's top-ranked team, got by Beaver Dam 50-29. Kristin Tischer and Valerie Hagerstrom had 12 points apiece for De Pere. And Wausau West needed overtime to get by Middleton, 53-to-48. Jessica Waldvogel scored 20 points for West.
The Division-Four semi-finals were also played yesterday. Wausau Newman beat Weston 58-36 on the strength of an 18-0 third quarter. And Black Hawk eliminated top-ranked Minong Northwood 42-31.
The Division-Three semi-finals are up first today. Undefeated and top-ranked Cuba City takes on Brillion at 9:05. Osseo-Fairchild will then play Oostburg.
The Division-Two semis will be played this afternoon. Top-ranked Monroe goes against Winneconne. And Altoona plays New Berlin Eisenhower. Title games in all four divisions will be played tomorrow.
