State permit needed for all family units
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Based on what happened at Trillium Green earlier this year, the Ellsworth Village Board was forced to spring into action.

As a result, Monday night, the Board adopted an ordinance that requires a state building permit for all new multi-family (three or more) units.

A fire occurred in one of the Trillium Green town homes and sifting through the mess, it was found that the walls weren't properly supported and that it wasn't state inspected.

Therefore, at a fee of $450 per unit, Village Building Inspector Galen Seipel will make sure everything is going according to form.

"This doesn't make me a state inspector," Seipel said in a previous meeting. "I'll just be the eyes for them."

Local resident Jim Peterson questioned why the Village would get involved in matters like this when this is more the contractor's responsibility.

Village President Gerald DeWolfe responded in that they can't have an incident like this happen again and they have to make sure the contractor did the job before they leave town.

It was stated that the policy for one or two units won't change.
