Steldt departing from EHS wrestling
After three seasons in charge of the Ellsworth High School wrestling team and several more as an assistant coach with the varsity, JV and middle school programs, Chad Steldt has departed as head coach of the state champion Panther program.
Steldt will be coaching at Fennimore High School starting next season. He will be teaching history and civics in the district high school and middle school.
Steldt is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and before then wrestled at Riverdale High School where he 1997 his squad won a state Division 3 championship. Fennimore competes in the same conference as Riverdale (the Southwest Athletic League) and the move brings Steldt back home closer to his family in southwest Wisconsin.
“I’ve had people from Fennimore contact me over the years asking me if I was interested in coaching there,” Steldt said. “At first I wasn’t interested but they demonstrated to me they want to have a successful wrestling program and I eager to be a part of building it.”
