SV contractor charged with theft
A Spring Valley man was charged last month in Pierce County Court with felony theft.
Peter J. Flanigan, 34, is accused of taking over $10,000 during a four-year span. If found guilty, Flanigan faces a maximum penalty of $25,000 dollars and/or 10 years prison.
His next court appearance is a Nov. 24 preliminary hearing.
According to the criminal complaint, a Maiden Rock man hired Flanigan to install heating and air conditioning in a house. Between Sept. 2003 and April 2004, the man wrote out three checks -- totaling $16,200 -- to Flanigan.
The man told Sheriff's Department investigators Flanigan did the initial installation of the ductwork. The man said the ductwork was almost done, but that's all the work Flanigan did.
From May through fall 2005, the alleged victim said he tried repeatedly to call Flanigan, but was unable to reach him and he didn't return phone calls or messages.
The man said he reached Flanigan in late November 2005 and Flanigan promised he would call within the next week. That never happened, according to the victim.
In spring 2006, the man said he learned that Flanigan's cell phone and business phone had been disconnected. The man was able to reach Flanigan in December 2006 and was told Flanigan was in financial trouble and planned to file for bankruptcy within the next month.
